Updated: Akeeba Backup

The mission of Akeeba Backup (previously JoomlaPack) is simple: “create a site backup that can be restored on any Joomla!-capable server”.

It’s an amazing, open-source, reliable Joomla extension that many Joomla website developers swear by and install on all clients’ sites. If you haven’t used Akeeba Backup before, and you want a reliable, easy to use, open source backup solution for your Joomla! site, try it out.

The developers of Akeeba Backup just released a critical update, so read the announcement and follow the link below:

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of Akeeba Backup 3.2.6, the latest version of our acclaimed backup component for Joomla! 1.5 and 1.6 web sites.

IMPORTANT! THIS IS CONSIDERED A CRITICAL UPDATE; ALL USERS ARE REQUESTED TO UPDATE

We discovered that version 3.2.5 had a major bug affecting all post-processing engines (cloud storage, sent to email, upload to remote FTP). More specificaly, if the “Process each archive part immediately” option was not selected, only the last archive part of a multi-part archive would be transferred to the remote location. This caused the uploaded backups to be partial and non-restorable. Please upgrade to 3.2.6 immediately as it addresses this issue.

  1. This is fantastic tool that we install for every single one of our Joomla sites. As well as creating reliable backups it is very handy for moving a site from a test domain to a live domain. Life would be much worse with this. FTPing takes an age. We even train our clients to use the tools so we don’t have to charge them to do it. Which means they spend less cash but are happier clients and tell their mates!
